Jonie and Catrina "get the Willies"
Posted on 08-10-2010
Jonie Larson and Catrina Wagner were recently recognized by the Statewide Editors Association for pieces they each wrote for Illinois Country Living magazine. "This is outstanding recognition by the editors of cooperative magazines across the nation," said AIEC President/CEO Duane Noland. " It validates the communication efforts put forth by Illinois Country Living magazine and all those involved."
Jonie Larson received first place for Best Story Illustrating a Co-op Principle for her story "The Power of Community" in the March 2010 edition of ICL. Design and layout was done by graphic designer Kathy Feraris. The story spoke of the devastation left in hurricane-stricken Haiti and the efforts underway by the NRECA International Foundation and its cooperative volunteers, including individuals from Illinois Rural Electric Cooperative.
First place for Best Treatment of a Technical Subject went to Catrina Wagner for her October 2009 story, "Finding Your Way - How GPS technology is expanding our world." Graphic designer Chris Reynolds was responsible for the design and layout. The article brought technical information about global positioning systems down to a level most individuals could understand and spoke of its uses by electric cooperatives, farmers, commercial fishermen and recreational users.

Annual meeting silent auction a huge success
Posted on 07-01-2010

The annual silent auction to benefit the Thomas H. Moore IEC Memorial Scholarship Fund was held on Thursday evening, July 29 during the AIEC annual meeting evening reception. Attendees were generous in their bids and by the end of the evening $10,737 was raised for the scholarship fund. Established in 1994, the program currently awards seven $1250 scholarships annually to high school seniors in the "electric cooperative family".
"I just want to thank everyone for their generosity," said Kristin Banks, silent auction coordinator. "We far exceeded our goal of $9,000 and it just shows how the cooperative family supports and values their youth." Shown is Duane Noland, president/CEO of the AIEC. Duane was "auctioned off" to the highest bidder to labor for a day at their cooperative. The winners were the directors from SouthEastern Illinois Electric Cooperative.
